How NOT to buy a Haunted House:
With Halloween coming up next week, I thought now would be a
good time to discuss haunted houses. Most people believe in
ghosts or paranormal activity, but some do not. For those that
do not, it would never occur to them that the house they are
buying is haunted. For those who do believe, it is something that
they may not think of to ask when purchasing a home.
Buyer’s may think that this is something that would need to be
disclosed by the seller. In fact, in the state of Connecticut, the
seller is only required to disclose material defects on the
Property Condition Disclosure. They also would not have to
disclose if a murder, suicide, or any other criminal activity
has occurred on the property. The buyer would have to ask
in order to find out, but there is always a chance that the seller
will lie about it.

research yourself. The buyer can google the address, talk to the
neighbor’s who have lived in the area for a long time or research
Even after all of the research, there may not be a clear indication
if a house is haunted or not. It is a very subjective topic and most
people do not discuss it for fear that other’s will think that they
Buying new construction may be the best way to assure a house
is not haunted…unless it was built on an old burial ground!
